The Around the Spare, Mighty Rack from Swagman makes it possible to transport up to two bikes on the back of your RV even if you already have a spare tire mounted to the bumper. The rack mounts to 4 to 4.5-inch square RV bumpers and wraps around the spare tire so that you can mount your bikes to the rear end of the vehicle. The rack features rugged steel construction and offers a weight capacity of 30 pounds per bike.

After reading other reviews, I bought it anyway and hoped for the best. I added some lock washers and nylon insert lock nuts to the U-bolts and the rack has not worked loose. I also added some foam water pipe insulation that I bought at the local hardware store and my bikes did not get scratched during transport. This bike carrier was inexpensive and the additonal parts cost me about $5. 2 of 3 people found the following review helpful  Worst rack I've ever owned, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Swagman Mighty Rack - Around the Spare (Sports) We installed this rack as the directions indicated and tightened all the nuts as snug as possible. The third day out on our trip someone motioned us over to the side of the road. The rack had shifted and one of our bike tires was bouncing on the road; totally destroyed the tire and rim. The 'J' hooks did not hold the bikes securely and they scratched to finish on the bikes because, at the loosest, we could barely get on the bikes. Ultimately we had to remove the bikes and rack because the bumper was being ripped off its supports. I would recommend looking for another type of RV rack. We were able to return it to Amazon but received no credit for the return. Caused my bumper to fail and voided my RV warranty, By This review is from: Swagman Mighty Rack - Around the Spare (Sports) I mounted this one on my 2010 Cougar 5th wheel. Hung 2 mountain bikes on it and about 30 miles later a car said my bikes were dragging the ground. Once I stopped, I discovered that my bumper tore 1/2 way from the mounts. Bending to such an angle that the bikes dragged the road destroying the tires on brand new bikes. I blamed the issue on a faulty bumper but as the manufacturer stated the warranty provisions do not cover damages caused by additional items attached to the bumper. So they did not cover the damage. I was satisfied with the rack but I would advise anyone using any bumper mounted rack to check their warranty first. Also reconsider mounting them to the bumper in case of a failure which could be more dangerous than just ruined tires. |
